Tracing Our Roots

Leopoldo B. Santos Elementary School was established in 1963 in response to the growing number of learners enrolled at Tandang Sora Elementary School. Due to the shortage of classrooms and limited school facilities, a small building located at Labing-isa Compound along Quirino Highway, Baesa, was rented and utilized as an extension campus of the said school.

During its first year of operation, the school initially offered only Grades One and Two. As the demand for accessible education in the community continued to increase, two additional grade levels were opened the following year to accommodate more learners.

On its third year of operation, Mr. Leopoldo B. Santos of Baesa Elementary School, now known as Lucas R. Pascual Memorial Elementary School, was designated as the school head. Through his dedicated leadership and tireless efforts, together with the support and cooperation of barangay officials, teachers, parents, and community stakeholders, a request was made for a permanent school site within Timoteo S. Cruz Subdivision where the school could eventually be transferred.

In 1970, Tandang Sora Elementary School Sitio 4 Annex was officially relocated to its present site at T.S. Cruz Subdivision, Barangay Baesa, Quezon City. With the support of the T.S. Cruz Subdivision Homeowners and the local community, a two-storey, three-classroom building equipped with comfort rooms, a water pump, incinerator, and other essential facilities was constructed to better serve the growing student population.

The untimely passing of Mr. Leopoldo B. Santos, the school’s first administrator, paved the way for Mrs. Cristeta P. Pacampara to assume leadership as the new principal. During her administration, a resolution was drafted, unanimously approved, and officially adopted renaming the school from Tandang Sora Elementary School Sitio 4 Annex to Leopoldo B. Santos Memorial Elementary School in honor of the late Mr. Leopoldo B. Santos and his invaluable contributions to the school and the community.

Through the years, Leopoldo B. Santos Elementary School has continuously transformed into a dynamic institution committed to providing quality education and holistic learner development. Mrs. Pacampara was succeeded by several dedicated administrators who each contributed significantly to the growth and progress of the school. These administrators include Mrs. Ruth Maravilla, Mrs. Nora Nano, Mrs. Emiliana Delmoro, Mrs. Mila Lavares, Mrs. Petronila Garcia, Mrs. Shirley Guillermo, Mrs. Elisa Dario, Ms. Eugenio Cristobal, Mrs. Leonida Orbito, Mrs. Elena Cortez, Mr. Silverio Estorco, Mrs. Lorna A. Ojeda, Mrs. Josefina A. Almarez, Mrs. Mitos B. Baldomero, Mrs. Wilhelmina L. Melegrito, Dr. Michelle S. Silva, and Dr. Marilou U. Regal.

With the unwavering support of the Parents-Teachers Association, stakeholders, and the community, numerous infrastructure projects and school improvements were realized throughout the years. Among these were the construction of a stage, covered sheds, comfort rooms, grotto, storehouse, classroom lavatories, cemented quadrangles and pathways, floor renovations, and the Don Benjamin Chua Sr. Memorial Multi-Purpose Hall. In 2017, another milestone in the school’s development was achieved through the construction of the Bonifacio Building, a three-storey structure with twelve classrooms, further strengthening the school’s capacity to provide a safe, conducive, and learner-friendly educational environment.

Today, Leopoldo B. Santos Elementary School continues to uphold its commitment to excellence in education by nurturing lifelong learners, developing responsible citizens, and fostering strong partnerships among educators, parents, stakeholders, and the community. Guided by its vision and mission, the school remains steadfast in shaping future-ready learners anchored in integrity, service, and academic excellence.
